Camp Resilience: North-Eastern Region

  • Town of Akron Community Room 250 Main Avenue Akron, CO, 80720 United States (map)

Welcome to Camp Resilience: A Rural Prosperity Leadership Academy.

** Due to unforeseen circumstances, this event will be rescheduled. We will reach out to participants with more information.

Nothing is future proof, but at Camp Resilience we will help you build the skills to ensure your communities are responsive to change. Resilient Colorado communities will be able to adapt and thrive no matter what disruptions they face. Disruptions facing Colorado communities include long-term stresses such as drought, aging populations, loss of population, climate change, industry transitions, and lack of affordable housing as well as short-term shocks such as fire and highway closures. You will walk away from camp able to integrate resilience into all aspects of your projects, programs, and plans. This will ensure you are investing in actions that will withstand change and disruption and endure for many generations. As with any good camp, there will be opportunities to break the rules, especially with regard to ways of doing business that no longer serve you. We hope you will walk away a little changed-at least as it relates to how you position your communities to take on the future. Singing kumbaya will be optional, but creativity will be front and center. We promise camp is never boring.

The Details:

What:

A free, one day, in-person workshop.

When:

April 9, 2024, in Akron, Colorado from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Who:

Rural county or municipal teams of 3-5 people consisting of local government representatives and local partners. We are suggesting a municipal/county manager, local government leadership staff representing different departments, community development staff, elected officials, and local partners. Local partners could include an economic development or nonprofit representative, chamber or business representative, or other community leader. Local partners can be invited based on the project you would like to workshop and if they play a role. Local governments have ultimate discretion as to who they want to bring.

Team Selection:

Given limited capacity, 5-6 teams will be selected based on commitment to action, enthusiasm, and statement of need. Please fill out our Request to Participate form by March 5th if interested.

For communities who are interested but unable to bring a whole team or are not selected, one representative from the community can attend. If you wish to just attend as a representative of your community, email Kate Guibert, and you Regional Manager, and we will add you to the invitation list.

Outcomes:

  • Participants will leave camp with a framework for integrating resilience into their organizations including identified shocks and stresses the community might face and the tools to address those vulnerabilities in all the work they do.

  • Participants will workshop one community project, plan, or program to make their project more adaptive to change.

  • Participants will be better able to integrate resilience into grant applications.

  • Participants will have a chance to hear from peer communities on how they are positioning their communities for the future.

  • The day promises to be fun and creative and get local governments and their partners outside their day-to-day boxes to do future looking and adaptive thinking.

  • A follow-up consultation with the Colorado Resiliency Office will be offered to each team to help further work the resilience priorities of the community.

  • The workshop will build a coalition of resilience practitioners across regions poised to take their communities into the future, while honoring the things that make their communities unique.
